The first light of the day crests the ridgeline in the background. This shot was taken just yards from my tent during the only trip (so far) that I've secured a place at Hidden Valley campground.

I'm not in Joshua Tree this weekend, but when I am, I like to end my trip with a sunset shot. This rounds out my visit, and I leave on a high note, hoping I have some good images in 'the bag.' And what's not to like about a beautiful Joshua Tree silhouetted against a sunset sky?

Sunrise or Sunset? What’s your favorite? For me sunrise is where it’s at. More often than not it’s peaceful (little wind if any, and no people), the colors are subtle, and you get to enjoy a new day beginning.

The backlight ‘almost’ makes these Cholla (Teddy Bear) cactus cuddly, but don’t be fooled, those barbed spines hurt if they get you.
